Welcome to Sartin Equipment Services

We are a Knoxville, TN based company offering construction equipment repair and service primarily to Contractors, Mines, Factories, and Rental Companies.

Whether on a jobsite or at our fully equipped shop we understand that if your equipment is unable to operate, it is costing you money. Our #1 priority is to get your equipment repaired in the quickest, safest, and most cost effective manner possible.

We pride ourselves on being flexible and resourceful and strive to repair/maintain equipment to a very high standard. The mechanics at SES are very well known for their high level of diagnostic skills and frequently troubleshoot complicated systems in a wide range of environments. We have completed service calls as far away as the Grand Cayman Islands (excavators, crane truck, 120' boom lift) and also completed installing two way radios on underground mining equipment here in East TN (all work was performed underground at three different mines)

Annual DOT Inspections and ANSI Inspections

For whatever reason, it seems like March and April are big months for Annual Inspections. So remember, if you have a commercial truck or trailer, chances are it needs a Federal DOT inspection once a year. And boom & scissor lifts are required to have an ANSI inspection every year as well. Fines are hefty, usually much more than whatever the inspections and needed repairs cost. Just give us a call at 865-696-8099 if you have any questions about either  of these types of inspections in the greater Knoxville, TN area.

Cat 319 Climbing into Railcar

Here’s a video of a Cat 319 climbing into a railcar. I think it’s pretty amazing, but several “real” operators I know say it’s not a big deal at all :)

Genie Hydraulic Drive Motor

We recently had a service call on a Genie boom lift that would not drive. The machine was being driven down a rather steep slope and had just quit driving. Although we suspect that the lift had been travelling too fast, there is no way to really say for sure. What we do know is that one of the drive motors definitely came apart :)

12 Volt Group 31 Gel Cell Batteries

Update as of 10-29-09…we are currently out of these batteries, but are working on getting some more and I will post an update here within the next few days. Thanks!

We recently came across a deal on some used UPS12-310FR batteries that were removed from a large UPS system. These are 88.0 amp hour group 31 gel cell batteries and weigh 67 pounds each. As they come in we put them on a slow charge for several days, load test them, then let them sit for a week  and check the surface voltage. We are not sure of the manufacture date but they appear to be about 5 years old. I have some of the same batteries that are well over 10 years old that are still in excellent shape.

Along with an inverter, these would make a great emergency power system. We have sold quite a few of them with no problems and we will gladly exchange them if returned within 30 days of purchase. Price is $50.00 each.

Pipe Casing Welding in Knoxville

We were recently approached by an Utility Contractor who was interested in having us perform some welding on pipe casings. Of course we accepted the job which consists of 100% welds on 4 joints of 3/4″ thick pipe that is 5 feet in diameter and 20 feet long. One of the big hurdles is the fact that each joint needs to be completely welded before the contractor can dig out for the next section…so we are doing most of the work in the late afternoon/early evening.

Annual DOT Inspections (Knoxville)

We recently started doing some DOT inspections on several trailers for a local company. We tried the brakes before we removed the drums and they actually worked, so this is why you need to be sure and have Annual DOT inspections performed. One of the brake shoe linings was simply gone and the other had seperated from the shoe and was just floating around in the drum…
